The Terrazzo Calligaris rug, designed by Calligaris Studio, takes inspiration from traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring. Its warm beige background is enriched with an irregular mix of coloured fragments in different sizes, recreating the distinctive visual character of the historic surface in a contemporary textile design.

Inspired by Venetian terrazzo

Terrazzo flooring has roots in ancient Greece and Rome, but it became particularly associated with Venetian architecture during the 15th century. Calligaris Studio translated this historic reference into a rug, using yarn to reproduce the characteristic appearance of marble terrazzo flooring.

The Terrazzo Calligaris rug combines a warm beige base with scattered elements in beige, brown, grey and brick red. Their different sizes and irregular distribution create a dynamic pattern that gives the surface its distinctive identity.

A distinctive multicolour pattern

Although the design contains several colours, its warm beige foundation keeps the overall appearance balanced. Therefore, Terrazzo can introduce pattern into an interior without becoming difficult to coordinate with surrounding furniture.

The combination of beige, brown, grey and brick red works naturally with wood, walnut, ceramic, stone and neutral upholstery. Moreover, the irregular pattern can provide an attractive contrast to furniture with clean geometric lines.

Machine-woven construction

Terrazzo is a machine-woven rug made from 60% polypropylene and 40% polyester, according to the current price list.

Calligaris uses a special manufacturing process designed to evoke the appearance of a handmade rug while retaining the durability of synthetic fibres. Consequently, the construction becomes part of the rug’s visual character rather than simply a technical feature.

Three rectangular sizes

This version of Terrazzo is available in three rectangular formats:

• W 280 × D 390 × H 1.3 cm

The 160 × 240 cm size works well in more compact spaces. Meanwhile, 200 × 300 cm provides a versatile format for standard living and dining arrangements.
