Description
The Genesi Altacom extending console table, designed by Riccardo Buscato, combines sculptural Italian design with an impressive transformation mechanism. In its closed position, Genesi is a compact console only 45 cm deep. When required, it extends into a full-size dining table, creating a practical solution for interiors where space needs to remain flexible.
Its distinctive metal structure is not simply functional. The angled lines of the base converge towards a central point, creating the sculptural appearance that defines the Genesi collection. Altacom describes this central structure as one of the key elements of the design.
From compact console to dining table
Genesi uses an aluminium telescopic extending mechanism that allows the 110 × 45 cm console to transform into a dining table.
Two extending versions are available. The AC007/195 version includes three extensions and can be opened to 95, 145 or 195 cm. For greater flexibility, AC007/295 includes five extensions and reaches 95, 145, 195, 245 or 295 cm.
Therefore, Genesi can remain compact for everyday use and provide considerably more dining space whenever required. Altacom states that the extending Genesi can accommodate up to eight people.
Central support for the extended table
As the console extends, central supporting legs provide additional support beneath the tabletop. Their finish coordinates with the metal structure, maintaining a consistent appearance even when Genesi is fully opened.
This combination of a telescopic mechanism and additional support allows the console to perform as a dining table rather than simply offering a small additional surface.
Wide choice of finishes
The Genesi tabletop is available in several material categories, allowing the console to be adapted to different interiors. Options include melamine, open-pore lacquered, oak veneer, mortar-look and ceramic finishes.
The metal base is also available in multiple finishes. As a result, Genesi can be configured for interiors ranging from warm and natural to minimal and architectural.
For selected tabletop materials, the extensions coordinate with the chosen top. The exact appearance of the extensions depends on the tabletop specification.
